- How do I get new ideas?
- Where do new ideas come from?
- Why are some people so creative while others couldn't find a new thought if it was sitting on their lap?
- Is creativity magic?
- Is it only for the more intelligent people that consent to live among us?
- If I am not creative, why do authorities refuse to let me plagarize?
- Do professional authors who plagarize get into trouble?
- Is creativity related to diet, exercise, who-you-know?
- What is the role of questions in creative efforts?
- Why do so many people resent having their material copied? (I thought that in a way it was an honor. What do you think?)
- Is it possible to hide the source of ideas that are copied?
A few partial answers, subject to revising:
- Mainly by changing, combining, or revising old ideas.
- Everywhere, 24/7, although paradoxically, ideas forget to occur for long periods of time, even longer if we take it personally and complain.
- Some people apply the principles of creativity; some don't even know what what those principles are? If you something who doesn't know any of the principles of creativity; I recommend an other book: Applied Imagination by Alex F. Osborn (My copy is copyright 1963, 3rd Edition, 31st printing, and of course, out of print, so expect to pay more than original price of $7.95; several years ago I paid just under 4X that price at a used book store I found on amazon.com. If you want modern creativity guidance (creativity software for purchase, click on the Thought Office link to right.
- No; it is subject to logical procedures. However, we must recognize that ideas will show up unexpectedly, day or night.
- No.
- Because plagarism is cheating, the stealing of ideas. It is possible to use the ideas of others if you give them credit for their ideas, i.e. footnoting)
- Probably, but I haven't heard many details.
- Browing the Internet we can find sources of information that connect healthly bodies to healthy minds (necessary for better creativity I believe).
- Everything. See Osborn's book for importance of questions
- See answer #6.
- Unlikely, I think.
| An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail. Creativity is the sudden cessation of stupidity. Don't undertake a project unless it is manifestly important and nearly impossible. Its not that we need new ideas, but we need to stop having old ideas. Edwin H. Land |

I always carry a pocket notebook at work, and elsewhere, I carry one of those cheap little digital voice recorders (not allowed at work), and keep it on the bedstand at home as well. I go a little farther with the notebook, since I put personal stuff in it. I developed a phonetic alphabet that will prevent anyone but the most determined to decode my personal stuff if the book happens to be lost or stolen. I use the personal alphabet only for sensitive material, like names and personal comments. I've worked on the phonetic alphabet for several years and I'm proud of its economy and clarity. It's yours for the asking, as I doubt that I will be losing my notebooks anywhere near Carlsbad.
ReplyDeleteI'm asking for the phonetic alphabet. Sounds cool and something I might be able to use in taking notes. My handwriting is getting worse and it never was that good. :O)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the detailled comment. If something asked you what they had to do to be able to comment on a Blogger blog, what would you tell them? I assume that it requires getting a Google username and password and signing in to Blogger. Right?
Friends wouldn't try to decode each other other's coded notes, would they?
Take care.
Has anyone told you of your striking resemblance to Woody Allen? Or is that you Woody? :O)
