Managers who like to overwork their employees love multitasking. They assume that if their employees are performing three tasks simultaneously, they'll work three times as fast.

The logic in that assumption is so thoroughly flawed, it is hard to believe that intelligent managers accept it without question. Perhaps they are too desperate to improve employee productivity.

Logic suggests two points:

1. No one can actually perform several tasks simultaneously. Rather they quickly switch from one task to the other. Hence, all things being equal, multitasking should be no faster than monotasking (that's my own word, incidentally).

"10 Steps for Boosting Creativity

10 Steps for Boosting Creativity

by Jeffrey Baumgartner

Johann Sebastian Bach

1. Some of those things, I hear again and again. What's worse, a lot these daft notions – or myths – about creativity are detrimental to the creative process. So, let's end this once and for all. Below are 10 creative myths. If you share these with everyone in the world, these myths will go away.

1. “I am not creative”

I have heard a lot of people say precisely that: “I am not creative”. The truth, of course, is that we are all creative. That's what differentiates us from Parrots who can say clever things put couldn't have a creative idea if their lives depended upon it. The truth is we are all creative. And while some people are naturally more creative than others, we can all have very creative ideas. The problem is, as we grow older, most of us learn to inhibit our creativity for reasons relating to work, acceptable behaviour and just the notion of being a grown-up.

How not to absorb the thoughts and information from “Applied Imagination” by Alex F. If you want to buy a personal copy at a Amazon used bookstore of equivalent store. My copy was copyrighted in 1963.
Osborn calls using questions for creativity as Questions as spurs to ideation.
Osborn says, “Questions can be used fruitfully in the pre-processing of a problem for brainstorming. Take the question of how to make a better car. This is too general for efficient attack. To narrow our target, we might ask questions like ‘what to add to a car?…..what to eliminate? etc.”
Osborn adds some general categories of questions to ask

By way of adaptation?

modification?

substitution?

addition?

multiplication?

subtraction?

division?

rearrangement?

reversal?

division?

combination?

with various examples. For creativity practice the principles of including these type of questions is essential. For me, the use of questions has to be the main tool in anyone’s creativity tool bag
For excellent software that includes, among other creativity tools these categories of questioning, see Thought Office, especially eXpertExpander Plugin Module Thought Office offer many creativity at their home page. Osborn (My copy is copyright 1963, 3rd Edition, 31st printing, and of course, out of print, so expect to pay more than original price of $7.95; several years ago I paid just under 4X that price at a used book store I found on amazon.com. If you want modern creativity guidance (creativity software for purchase, click on the Thought Office link to right.

No; it is subject to logical procedures.
